One man's trash is another man's treasure.

About two weekends ago, my friends and I sneaked into our old abandoned elementary school. It was not the first time we had done this due that it has been abandoned for almost three years but it's always fun to visit during the day or at night to scare each other or just pass some time there. In some rooms you can still find some old useful rubbish and sometimes I took old tapes or posters back home with me (I don't know why because now they are just lying on the floor of my room).  But this time, I found an old box with over 100 CDs! Most of them where the same having old Mac software installations or things of that nature. I took a couple just for the sake of it, initially planing to break them apart and do some type of collage with them.

Last night I was planing my supposed art piece when I decided I should put some of them in my computer to see what they actually contained before breaking them. To my surprise this were some of the images I found:

I couldn't open most of the files because they dated back to 1991

Isn't this super cool?!

I am looking forward to searching for more of these. They have no sentimental value at all but it turned actually pretty fun to look for any useful images between all the existing files.

"Dirty Girls" not so Dirty

A few days ago I got to watch “Dirty Girls" a documentary filmed by Michael Lucid. Shot in 1996 and edited in 2000, this is a short documentary basically about a group of 13-year-old riot girls in Los Angeles who were socially ostracized at their school by their peers. Everyone in the schoolyard held strong opinions about these so-called “dirty girls," and meanwhile, the “dirty girls" themselves aimed to get their message and ideals across by distributing a zine across campus.

It is a short almost 20 minute video where the audience gets to see both sides of the situation. What I found very frustrating was how ignorant their peers sounded, with things like:

  • "I find it personally offensive that they are fighting for women, because I am a woman…and they are not. I mean what do they know about…"

  • "Thats the easiest thing to do, rebel."

  • (When she shall die take her and cut her out and she shall make the face of heaven so fine) “Like Ew thats just Ew"

That poem was altered from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet! How is that “Ew"?

The opinion of the outsiders made me have my own little fit while I was watching. I’m not here to insult anybody but I hope that all these people talking shit can look at this now and realize how ignorant they sounded at the time.

The documentary is genius! It took me back to the nineties. I felt like I was in one of those late nineties “chick flicks" that I love. And to top it off, the sound track is great! I would really recommend it to anyone who is up to a ride back to the time of the grunge and grrrrl riots!

One Sweet Fantasy Ft. Mazzy Star

Im finally back again and I can't wait to share with you guys some of the highlights of my summer. Listening to Mazzy Star makes me want to drunkenly slow dance with a biker in a shabby bar off of route 66. As you might have already guessed, one of my newest obsessions is "Mazzy Star" and specially Hope Sandoval, the vocalist. Her celestial voice can only belong to a goddess from a distant planet or a beautiful being from an unapproachable dimension. My last statements may sound fabricated or excessive, but I invite you come up with your own conclusions after this brief taste of Mazzy Star and realize I wasn't too far off.

This song is a total must.

P.S. Mazzy Star is back after 17 years! Their new album will come out in mid september just 3 days after my birthday! I really hope they are planing on a tour soon.

First Entry

I have been wanting to write a blog for a long time now and I finally drove my self into doing it. I honestly don't have any prior plans for this or have any idea of how this is going to be organized. What I  do know, is that I am probably going to make this like a photo/diary blog, something I can look back to one day as a reminder of how I was as a teenager.

Lately I have been going through some old photos from when I was a kid and I just can't get over how cool I was before middle school. I basically wore, ate, said, and did anything I wanted to. My plan for this summer is just that, recovering the old me that got lost in those lousy middle school years.
